Comfort and convenience of modern apartment depends on the lighting. In addition to natural lighting, a great role in this belongs to artificial lighting. Correct lighting is not only coziness and comfort, it is the appropriate atmosphere in your home, the optimal conditions for work and rest, a good mood. To create artificial lighting apply lamps of various types and different functional purposes. With the help of lamps you can give the interior of the room a peculiar style and appearance.
Most of us live in apartments where you can rarely find a separate dining room with a large table. Most often, we place the table in the kitchen. And at this table we have dinner (dinner), work with a laptop or draw with a child while we cook. A table in the kitchen is an important element. And so it is not only the table and chairs that are important, but also its coverage.
Lighting in the kitchen (and not only in the kitchen) can and should be different. With its help, we “create” a mood, an atmosphere. Lighting the dining table also takes part in this.
Types of lighting
Most often today the task of general lighting of kitchens is taken over by ceiling lamps. The task of lighting the work area, “to prevent fingers from cutting off with cucumbers” is the lighting of the working area of the kitchen set. Lighting the table creates a feeling of coziness, at home. In addition, it is also a great element of decor, so it is important that it fits the style of the room.
Perhaps the most optimal – and most popular – is the use of a luminaire on a suspension. Choosing a lamp – its size and shape – is based on the overall concept of your kitchen, as well as the dimensions of the room (ceiling height).
How to hang a lamp above the table?
The lamp above the table should hang high enough that those who sit at the table do not blind the light of the lamp. If the ceiling in the room is not very high, then the distance from the floor to the beginning of the lamp should be about 150 cm (75 cm from the table). If the height of the room allows, then the lamp can be placed higher (160-170 cm from the floor or 80-90 cm from the table).
Adjust the height of the lamps can be if the lamp hangs on the chain (remove the links) or on the cord (shorten). If the attachment is rigid, then it will be impossible to regulate it. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to this when choosing a lamp.
When choosing a lamp, you also need to consider its size, or rather the ratio of the size of the lamp and the table. If the table is small (round or square), then the lamp should be chosen less by somewhere 30-40 cm than the diameter of the table. If the table is long and rectangular, then it is worthwhile to use several lamps in a row. They can be arranged at different heights: the asymmetry of the fixtures will give “movement” to the interior.
During the repair, determine exactly the place where the table will stand, taking into account the seating around the chairs. Since the lamp, especially single, should be exactly in the center of the table. If the table is at the wall, you can also add wall sconces – they will give a diffused dim light, which is suitable for dinner and decorate the wall and the picture on it. Sconce will also add symmetry to the kitchen.
Sconces can also be useful in the case of low ceilings in the kitchen, when the suspended fixtures hang very low. In this case, several sconces should be placed along the table. Sconce is also very appropriate over the bar counter. Depending on the function, choose the direction of light: down, up, or down, and up.
To create an “atmosphere”, you may also need to adjust the brightness of the light. An interesting design move will also be placing the mirror on the wall opposite or near the table (or just a lamp) – this technique increases the volume of the room and doubles the lighting. The mirror can be hung over the ceiling lamp.
